What is APEX Wheel Cleaner?

APEX Wheel Cleaner is an acid-free, iron-removing wheel cleaner that dissolves baked-on brake dust and bleeds red as it works. The color change is your cue: spray it on, watch it turn red as it reacts with the metallic brake dust, then agitate and rinse.

It is pH-balanced, non-caustic, and acid-free, so it's safe on painted, powder-coated, chrome, steel, alloy, and coated or uncoated aluminum — even your brake calipers. The high-viscosity formula clings to vertical surfaces so it can dwell and break down grime in the most intricate wheel designs.

  • Type: Acid-free iron-removing wheel cleaner

  • Formula: Non-caustic, high-viscosity cling
  • Scent: Lemon

Why it works

Brake dust isn't just dirt — it's iron. Tiny metallic particles from your brake pads bond to the wheel finish and a normal soap won't budge them. This cleaner targets that iron chemically.

As it dissolves those particles it bleeds red, so you get instant visual feedback. No guessing, no scrubbing blind — you see the reaction, agitate, and rinse it away.

How to use

1. Work on cool wheels, one wheel at a time.

2. Spray on and let it cling and react — it bleeds red on the brake dust.

3. Agitate with a wheel brush to loosen baked-on grime.

4. Rinse thoroughly before it dries. Never let it dry on the wheel.

Pro tips for best results

Cool wheels only. Never apply to a hot wheel straight off a drive — let them cool first.

One wheel at a time. So the product never dries before you can agitate and rinse.

Don't let it dry. Keep the surface wet with product and rinse thoroughly — drying can leave residue.

Test first. On a first use, spot-test an inconspicuous area to confirm compatibility with your finish.

Why detailers reach for it

See it working.

Bleeds red on brake dust
The iron-reactive formula turns red as it dissolves embedded metallic brake dust — so you can see it working and know exactly when to rinse.
Acid-free & non-caustic
Powerful on grime, gentle on finishes. No acid means it's safe on every wheel type without the risk harsh cleaners carry.
Clings to vertical surfaces
A thick, high-viscosity formula that grips the wheel instead of running off, giving it time to break down baked-on deposits.
Safe on every wheel
Painted, powder-coated, chrome, steel, alloy, coated or uncoated aluminum — and it cleans brake calipers too.
Reaches intricate designs
Spokes, barrels, and tight pockets where a brush can't easily reach — the cling-and-react action does the work for you.
Updated, lower-odor formula
The improved version has less odor and a cleaner lemon scent, with the same powerful iron-removing performance.
How it works

The color is the cue

1
Spray it on a cool wheel. The thick formula grabs and clings to the surface instead of running straight to the ground.
2
It reacts and bleeds red. As the iron-removing agents dissolve the metallic brake dust baked into the finish, the product turns red — your visual signal that it's doing its job.
3
Agitate and rinse. Once it's reacted, a quick brush loosens the rest and a thorough rinse carries it all away. Don't let it dry on the wheel.

Fresh lemon scent

Wheel cleaners are usually the harshest-smelling product in the kit. The updated formula cuts the odor way down and finishes with a clean lemon scent — a far more pleasant job.

My Favorite Wheel Cleaner

I have yet to find a wheel cleaner that works as well as Apex Auto Products', and I have tried many different cleaners from the other big brands out there. This wheel cleaner breaks down all the grime and brake dust off of my wheels, which I get a lot of due to the Brembo brakes. Very nice and easy to use.

This stuff works!

I love this wheel cleaner because it gets all the dirt and gunk off my wheels and tires before I apply any other products. You can visibly see a trail of dirt and grime getting washed away from the tire.

Great Cleaner

I just tried out this product on some wheels with heavy brake dust and who knows what else! A pressure washer couldn’t even get any of it off alone but after spraying some of this wheel cleaner on it and letting it sit for a few seconds everything just sprayed right off without any scrubbing or anything. Highly recommend this wheel cleaner, great product!
